about

The E. J. Brighton writing team is a pair of long time friends. We’re partners in literary mischief and mayhem who write together full time. Some questions that we’ve been asked:

Is Sereno a real place in Northern California?
Sereno is only real to us: a vibrant, mysterious, sometimes dangerous town on the fringe of Silicon Valley, located near Los Gatos, at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Why the start-up Silicon Valley environment in Last Vendetta?
For years, tech start-ups have ruled both our lives in roles from principal to supportive spouse. But at present we’re thrilled to be playing with our imaginary friends in Sereno while our guys revel from dawn to dinner at their latest green-tech adventure.

In Last Magician, Norah twists time, reads auras, communes with her spirit guide, and parties with ghosts. What inspired her adventures?
We can’t reveal the details. But a real, thirteenth-century shaman led us through the desert to secret petroglyphs and a hidden burial site on a remote mesa.

How do you write as a team?
We developed a system that works for us and enjoy brainstorming new ways to harass and torture our characters. Give us a thesaurus, a sexy, protective hero and a gutsy, sensual heroine and we’re happy.

How long have you been writing?
That is not a polite question.

Do you have ideas for other books?
Yes, we’ve planned at least eight books in the Sereno series.

I get the E. for Elizabeth and the J. for Joy. But why Brighton? It’s a wonderful town in southern England, a country we both lived in.

What about contests?
Our eleven wins and finals for the three MSS include the Daphne du Maurier, Linda Howard, Sheila, Laurie, Golden Rose and Gotcha!

Please tell me Bruner in Last Chance is real.
Yes. And he’s a lover. Here’s his picture with his best buddy, Bailey.
